Continuing on in our reading of the Gospel of John chapter four, we come to the end of the conversation between Jesus and his disciples. Read the following passages and respond to the questions in your own time and in your own way.

John 4:39-41

“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers.”

  • What was the woman’s testimony? – See verse 29
  • What can you learn about Jesus Christ considering he was willing to stop his journey and spend two days teaching and ministering to those that sought him out?
  • How do you think the Jewish disciples felt about spending two days with the Samaritans? – See verse 9 for context.
  • What was the result of Jesus’ willingness to receive those the Father sent?

John 4:42

“They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.””

  • According to this verse, why did the Samaritans first step out in faith and seek to learn more about Jesus?
  • What was it that led them to own their faith for themselves?

Questions for today:

  1. Name at least one unbelieving person that trusts you enough to listen to your story of faith in Jesus Christ.
  2. Are you willing to pray and ask the Lord to help you find ways to connect with that person in a way that will help them have an encounter with Jesus Christ?
  3. If you are feeling really bold, why not share this person’s name with another Christian friend and ask them to pray with you and encourage you to respond in faith when God opens the door?

May the Lord use you and your willingness for his glory today.
