Compassion

As the followers of Jesus Christ, we know that the Lord has compassion toward us and seeks to bring us peace in times of trial and hardship. We are given the gift of the Holy Spirit as the great Counselor, the one who walks with us, and leads us through our times of sorrow and confusion.

As we give thanks for the compassion of Christ, we ought to be moved to have compassion for others who are facing times of trial and sorrow. This is what the Apostle Paul taught the church in the following passage:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Give Away

As those who have been made into children of God through the work of Jesus Christ, we are filled with the Holy Spirit who provides us comfort in times of trial. We ought therefore to seek ways to be a source of compassion and comfort to others when they are in places of need.

Freely we have been given, and so freely we give.

The People of Israel

The people of Israel are currently walking through the valley of the shadow of death.

Conflict, injustice, and evil are pressing in on every side, and those of us who have been blessed with the gift of God’s compassion and love ought to be moved to share this compassion with those in need. And today we see that the people of Israel, and the innocents caught up in this time of war and struggle, are in need of compassion.

Prayer

If you are so inclined, please join us in praying through the following points of need and concern:

Pray for the Grieving

Lord Jesus Christ, we pray for those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones and family. We lift them up to you, and add our tears to theirs. May your Holy Spirit convey our shared sorrow, and bring them a sense of connectedness in the midst of their sorrow.

Pray for the Israeli Church

Lord Jesus Christ, we join with our brothers and sisters in Christ that are living in the region of Israel. We lift up to you those who bear the name of Jesus Christ, and agree with them as they seek ways to bring you glory in this time of shared misery and hardship. Bring strength to the believers in Christ, and enable them to bear witness for the Messiah, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Pray for Revival

Lord Jesus Christ, we bring before you those who do not yet believe in the work of Jesus Christ, and we ask that you will reveal yourself anew to those that are ready to hear the message of love and grace that is your gospel truth. Lord Jesus, use this time of shared sorrow and misery to bring about salvation and repentance for those on both sides of this battle. We ask this in Jesus’ name!

Pray for Wisdom and Peace

Lord Jesus Christ, we lift up those in places of authority and power on both sides of this conflict, and ask that your wisdom would reign supreme. We desire to see the leaders of this world acting in accordance with your will and plans, and so we pray for those in places of worldly authority. Help them to see the wise course of action that will ultimately usher in a time of peace and healing.
