| A Time of Praise What does it mean for you to give God your praise? If we want to live lives that are marked by real worship that is pleasing to the Lord, then we need to make the praise of God a part of our everyday life. We need to train ourselves to give God thanks, to express our appreciation of the work of his Spirit and the truth of his word. We need to stop and acknowledge the glory and goodness of the Lord so often that praise becomes a normal part of our day-to-day life. In the passage below, we can hear an example of praise given by the Apostle Paul in his message to the church at Rome: “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.”Romans 11:33-36 NIV11 All Things In this passage, the Apostle Paul, inspired by the work of the Holy Spirit, stops his discussion about the gift of salvation, that was given by God through the Jewish people in the work of the Christ, and he is carried away in a time of praise. Here, Paul quotes from the scriptures, and acknowledges that all things are from God, for God, and by God. He shows us a great example of truth based praise. Every Good Thing “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”James 1:17 NIV11 As we hear in the passage above, it is right for us to praise God over all the good that we find in this world. If it is true, beautiful, holy, right, good, loving, peaceful, just, and honoring, give praise to God for all these good things. Reflection As you go through your day, look for the good for which you can give God your heartfelt praise. Acknowledge the Lord today. Look up from your troubles and see the Holy King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who has given his all for you. Praise Jesus Christ today! In Christ,Ryan Laden |
