REFLECTING LOVE

Reflecting Love

The more that we understand and embrace the love that the Lord has for us, the more that we will be able to experience and celebrate this love.

If we are willing to receive the love of God, as provided in the sacrifice and eternal life provided by Jesus Christ, and as seen in the daily leadership and encouragement to faithfulness that is the work of the Holy Spirit, then we are going to become people that begin to resemble this kind of love.

This is the point that was made so clearly by the Holy Spirit, working through the message of the Apostle Paul in his message to the Corinthian church. Listen to this great passage and see how God’s love is seen at work in our calling to love one another.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

1 Corinthians 13:1-6 NIV11

The Greatest Gift

In verses one to three we hear a powerful truth. Without love, nothing that we can do in the name of the Lord, or as an act of worship given to the Lord, is of any value to God. The Lord is the source of every real gift of the Spirit. The Lord provides all aspects of prophecy, wisdom, and faith. The Lord has no use for our coin, or our flesh — and is the provider of these essential elements of life anyway.

So, what gift can we ever really give to the Lord?

The answer has been and will always be our love. All true expressions of worship and praise are built upon, powered by, and paid for with our true heart of love for the Lord.

Love’s Example

So, what does a life lived as an expression of love for the Lord look like?

In verses four to seven we hear what it looks like, feels like, sounds like to be people that are so filled with God’s gift of love that this love spills out of us in our daily lives.

Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for your gifts of love. You set the example of what real love looks, like day in and day out. Help me keep my eyes on your love. Help me to let your love so fill me up that I spill your love out in my words, attitudes and actions.

In Christ,
