  One of the ways that the Lord helps us see his wisdom, power, and creativity is by allowing us to observe the results of his creative works. When we marvel at a gift of rare beauty in the created order, when we gasp in awe at the complexity and ingenuity of one of the uncountable examples of design in the workings of the natural world, or when we simply stop and find peace in the gentle breeze, we are connecting with the works of the Creator. 

In the passage below, we are reminded that the Lord uses his creative works to speak to and through this creation. 

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 

2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 

3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

(Psalm 19:1-4 NIV11)

Connect

In this passage, we are given a beautiful description of how the Lord uses his creative acts to help us connect with him and to understand a small portion of his nature and being. 

  •  How does observing the created world help you connect with the Creator?
  •  What are some of your favorite ways to enjoy creation?

More than words

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is it worth for us to actually stop and experience the beauty and gift of God’s creation?

In this Psalm, we are reminded that creation speaks for the Lord, even without the use of words or written language. Instead, creation speaks to us through our senses and through the wonder and awe that accompany times of connection with creation. 

  •  What message do you hear when you are listening to the “speech” of nature?
  •  Have you helped another person around you to connect with the Lord through your love and appreciation for the created world?

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, I love hearing from you and want to know you more and more. Help me see the value and benefit of being in and among your created world. Help me to stop looking at my phone so that I can look up and see a sunset or listen to the birds. Lord, you are a majestic artist and I want to be a part of your creation more and more.
