THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)
Day 2 — “Learning to Rest”
“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” — Psalm 23:2
“Rest is not a reward for finishing; it is a rhythm for living.” — John Mark Comer
Thought:
Notice the language: He makes me lie down. Rest does not come naturally to us. We resist it. We confuse busyness with faithfulness. Yet the Shepherd knows that without rest, the soul withers. Green pastures and still waters are not luxuries; they are necessities for life.
God does not just invite us into rest—He leads us there. Stillness is where we relearn who we are and who God is. It is where our frantic striving loosens its grip and our souls begin to breathe again.
Reflection:
What keeps me from slowing down and resting with God?
Application:
Create a small pocket of stillness today—five minutes of silence with no agenda except being present to God.
Prayer:
God of peace, slow me down. Lead me into rhythms that restore rather than exhaust. Teach me that rest is not laziness but trust. Amen.
