THE LORD IS ENOUGH

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIPPASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)

Day 1 — “The Lord Is Enough”

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1

“God is not a supplement to my life; He is the source of it.” — Dallas Willard

Thought:
This opening line is not poetic sentiment; it is a declaration of trust. To say “The Lord is my shepherd” is to confess that life is not self-managed. A shepherd leads, protects, and provides. The sheep’s job is not control—it is trust. When David says, “I shall not want,” he is not claiming he will never desire anything; he is saying that in God’s care, nothing essential will be missing.

Most of our anxiety comes from shepherding ourselves. We live as if it all depends on us—our competence, our planning, our striving. Psalm 23 begins by inviting us to stand down. To release the illusion of self-sufficiency. When God is enough, the soul can finally rest.

Reflection:
Where am I still trying to be my own shepherd?

Application:
Today, name one area of your life where you will consciously release control and trust God’s care.

Prayer:
Shepherd of my soul, I confess how often I live as if it all depends on me. Teach me to trust Your leadership. Help me believe that You are enough. Amen.
