THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR RYAN LADEN
Today we take a look at the last of the Beatitudes for this week. We will pick up the next part of the Sermon on the Mount together in our weekend services.
Be in prayer for those leading us in worship and for the impact that this biblical message will have on our family of faith.
“Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.”
· What is a peacemaker? How would you describe this character trait?
· How would you describe the behavior of someone who would reject this principle?
Message from James:
As we have looked at several passages from the book of James this week, here is one more message that speaks to this idea of seeking peace as a follower of Christ:
“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”
· What stands in the way of becoming a person filled with God’s gift of wisdom?
· How do these characteristics of wisdom compare to the Beatitudes that we have covered so far in Matthew 5:1-9?
· Why do you think that the reward or outcome that follows being a person of peace is that of righteousness?
More from James:
Here is one more message from James that fits with this teaching on being a peacemaker:
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
· Be honest with yourself … are there areas of conflict and discord in your life that come from any areas of selfishness or anger?
· How do these broken relationships impact your ability to live at peace?
· Do you desire to see these areas of conflict brought under the authority and wisdom of God? What is standing in your way?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you for including me into your family, for making me a child of the Living God. As a child of God, I desire to bring you glory and honor with all I do and say. This includes my relationships as well. Lord lead me to seek peace with those around me. Help me to be a person of peace wherever I may go.
Amen.
In Christ,
Ryan Laden
