Joy Can Coexist with Suffering
By Pastor Bill Muir

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”

James 1:2Insight:
Joy isn’t the absence of trials—it’s the presence of trust. James doesn’t say the trial is joy, but that we can consider it joy when we see what it’s doing in us. Your pain may feel pointless now, but it’s producing something eternal: trust, maturity, depth. That kind of joy doesn’t shout—it holds on.

Prayer:
God, help me consider this moment joy—not because I like it, but because I trust You’re doing something in it.

Practice:
Say aloud: “Even in this, I will trust You.” Repeat it when your heart wants to complain or collapse.
