How Far Will We Go?
By: Pastor Victor Borchard

“Why did you not come sooner?” The new convert in Asia asked this question to a missionary in the 1800’s. He continued, “You people in the West have known about Jesus for 1800 years. My father died as a Buddhist. He searched for his entire life for the answer to one burning question, ‘What shall I do with my sins?’ Before you got here, he died with his question unanswered. Why did you not come sooner?” I read this true story in a book somewhere, maybe it was by Hudson Taylor. But it’s stuck with me ever since.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 ESV)

Jesus calls us to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. The people at the ends of the earth are dying to hear the message of salvation. You and I have a part to play. What’s yours? I have a heart for the two million untrained pastors who serve in some of the least reached parts of the world. It links with my passion and training to my prayer for the Lord to involve me more deeply in that good work someday. That’s my ends of the earth. What’s yours?
