 The Power
By Victor Borchard

“So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.””
Romans 1:15-17

Last weekend, my wife and I drove to the Northern California coast to stay at a little cottage. As we approached the host’s home, it was strangely dark. We wondered if anyone was home to give us the keys to our place. Thankfully, he opened the door and led us to our cottage. It was similarly dark and cold. Our host informed us that we were located on 120 acres that was completely of the PG&E power grid. Our exclusive power source for electricity came from some solar panels.

Paul refers to another source of exclusive power. The gospel is the power of God for salvation. There is no other power available for salvation. This power of God is only available in the gospel.

If I wanted to turn on the lights last weekend, the only power I could draw upon was the power provided by solar panels. If we want to be saved, the only power we can draw upon to do that is the power of God in the gospel.

Today, let’s believe the gospel and receive the power of God for salvation.
