Justification Is By Grace Through Faith In Christ
By: Victor Borchard

I have a friend named Bill. He was a lawyer who broke the law by embezzling money from his clients. It cost him his freedom and his fortune. He went to prison and owed millions.
What if a rich man, like Jeff Bezos, offered to trade places with Bill. Jeff said, “Let’s transfer all of my wealth into your bank account and all of your debts onto my account. Further, let me take your place in prison. I’ll assume your guilt and you assume my innocence. I’ll be condemned and you’ll be justified. It’ll be a great exchange.”

Justification involves a great exchange. God charges our sin to Jesus’ account. He credits all of Jesus’ righteousness to our account. Justification is a legal declaration by God that sinners who trust Christ are righteous.

Jesus pays the full debt of our sin by dying in our place as our substitute. God credits the infinite and matchless worth of Jesus’ righteousness to our account and we go free. It’s a great exchange.

Christians, let’s rejoice in our justification. God declared us forgiven of all of our sins past, present and future! Today, let’s rejoice in our justification. God credited us with the riches of Christ’s righteousness. From debts we’d never repay to fortunes we’ll never exhaust, we’re justified!

We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified … I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God,
for if righteousness were through the law,
then Christ died for no purpose.”
Galatians 2:15-16 & 20-21

·  What kind of a difference would it make if we viewed other Christians as justified by God, forgiven of all their sins and credited with all of His righteousness?
