You’ll Receive Power

God is calling us to be His witnesses
by the power of His Spirit
until the return of His Son.


My pastor in Idaho is named Bob Davis. I remember him asking us a question again and again. It was this, “Do you know, that you know, that you know, that you’re born again?” It’s a good question. Years later, Dell Tacket asked a similar question in The Truth Project, “Do you really believe that what you really believe is really, real?”

Assurance matters. Confidence helps. If I’m going to tell somebody that ‘Jesus is Lord,’ I better believe it myself. I should be convinced of it.

This is where the Holy Spirit empowers our witness. He’s why we believe. He’s the reason we testify. He gives us an eyewitness, first-hand testimony about Jesus. Look again at Acts 1:8…

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

The Holy Spirit gives power for Jesus’ disciples to be His witnesses. It’s the inner witness of the Holy Spirit. He lives inside of us. He provides us with assurance. He bears witness to us that Jesus is Lord, that God raised him from the dead and that the Bible is true. He’s how we know that we’re born again.

It’s called the illumination ministry of the Holy Spirit. He casts His light upon the Scripture He inspired so that we believe it and understand how it applies to our lives. Then, He empowers us as Jesus’ witnesses so that we tell others the truth about Jesus. We know that we know. We really believe it’s really, real. We’re not on our own. He’s with us in power. We’re clothed with power from on high to go and tell the good news. We’ve received His power. Let’s be His witnesses, today!
