After Jonah finished his prayer from the belly of the great fish, “the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land” (Jonah 2:9, ESV). God saved Jonah in a way that benefited him profoundly. Instead of the death he deserved, God gave him the life and ministry that he didn’t deserve.

Our salvation is even more profoundly beneficial as Paul explains to the Thessalonians, “To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 2:14, ESV)

We obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ by seeing him and resembling him. He prayed for us to see his glory, “Father, I desire that they also, who you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24, ESV)

John promised that when we see Him, we’ll resemble Him by being like Him:

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
1 John 3:1-3

These are profound benefits of our salvation. Seeing Jesus. Being made like him. Obtaining his glory. So profound and so beneficial. Dwell on this hope and invite his purity to become yours, today!
