The prophet Jonah took a short-term mission trip to Nineveh. His itinerary took the scenic route through the belly of a great fish. God saved Jonah and got him back on track to Nineveh. Jonah warned the Ninevites of God’s coming judgment, “Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” The people listened, repented and God spared them of the coming judgment. Jonah’s salvation had a very positive impact upon others.

By God’s grace, I’ve been on sixteen short-term mission trips. Most of them were in Eastern Europe. The others were in North America. As I reflect on those trips, I thank the Lord for the believers that I met on each of them. They have had a positive impact upon me.

Paul, Timothy and Silvanus went on a short-term mission trip to Thessalonica. They thanked God for the positive impact those believers had on them, too. Paul’s team thanked God for saving the Thessalonians and for making them brothers and sisters in Christ.

But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.”
2 Thessalonians 2:13-15, ESV

Your salvation is also having a positive impact upon others. The people who prayed for your salvation are thanking God for answered prayer. The people who are served by your ministry can also thank God for his saving work through you. Since God saved you, His spiritual family is bigger, brighter and better.

Today, take a moment to thank the Lord for some other believers that he has placed into your life. Think through your family and friends, your churches and ministries, your short-term or long-term mission trips. We ought always to give thanks to God for them.
