PRAISE OVER CONSPIRACY

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIPPASTOR RYAN LADEN

Conspiracy

In the message that the Lord gave to the prophet Isaiah, there is a fascinating message concerning the destructive and dangerous nature of worldly conspiracies.

In our world today, we are so filled with the effects of conspiracy that we no longer trust anything we hear.

Who knows what is true and what is a lie?

In the following passage, the Lord reminds Isaiah that there is only one source of truth and wisdom, and that the lies and whispers of others cannot be allowed to compete with the word of the Lord.

“This is what the LORD says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people: “Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.””

Isaiah 8:11-13 NIV11

God First

In Isaiah’s day, as well as in ours, we are constantly challenged to accept a new and ever-changing definition of what is real and what is true. The world’s wisdom changes with each day, and just as soon as you feel like you have a grip on what is real and true, it shifts, and leaves you standing out in the cold.

The Lord provides a different way for his people. The Lord is not one of many truths, he is in fact the only way, truth and life, as Jesus Christ made clear in John 14:6“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Do Not

Isaiah was challenged by the Lord to not join in the conspiratorial thinking of those around him in his day. Instead, he was advised by the Lord to fear only the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Only God can be trusted to remain the same, and to provide real truth in times of uncertainty.

This is why Isaiah was challenged to turn away from conspiracy and the speculative chatter of fools. Only the Lord can provide eternal and unchanging truth. Look to his word, and trust in what he provides.

Song of Praise

A little after this message against trusting in the world’s version of truth, Isaiah recorded a message of praise given to the Lord. This song of praise is well worth our time and attention today:

“Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
The LORD, the LORD himself,
is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.”

With joy you will draw water
from the wells of salvation.

In that day you will say:
“Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.

Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things;
let this be known to all the world.

Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion,
for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.””

Isaiah 12:2-6 NIV11

Reflection

· As you go through your day, reflect back on the message of this song of praise.

· Use these words to aid your prayer, and guide your mind, as you wrestle with the ever-changing truth presented by this dark and unbelieving world.
