Hard times come. People mistreat us. Pain and suffering visit without warning. In these hard times, we have a choice that is laid before us. We can allow our circumstances to dictate our response or we can make the choice to turn to the Lord in a spirit of worship and praise.
To help you in your personal time of worship, I present for your consideration the message of Psalm 100. This is a great Psalm that you can use to help you start your day off with praise that draws us closer into a living relationship with the Lord.
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
(Psalms 100:1-5 NIV11)
In the material below, there are a few concepts taken from this passage that can help us take a step toward being people of praise and worship.
Creation
- The Lord has created this world and the evidence of his handiwork is worth noticing.
- When was the last time that you stepped outside and took note of the beauty and order of creation?
- Have you ever stopped and thanked God for the works of creation?
Be Glad
- The Lord is calling us to come into his presence (which is everywhere) with gladness in our hearts.
- We are to allow his creation and his love to so fill us that we overflow with HIS joy, especially when we lack the energy ourselves.
Joyful Songs
- Worship through music is a big part of our expression of faith toward Jesus.
- The Lord knows that a good song of praise will soften even the hardest heart and allow us to respond to our circumstances with praise.
Know the Lord
- If you have 5 minutes today, consider spending them in a time of prayer and praise.
- Focus on the joy of knowing the Lord.
- You do not have to guess at the nature and person of our God; he has made himself known to us in the work and person of Jesus Christ.
Come Near
- Enter his gates… In other words, come into his presence with an offering of praise.
- Be grateful that you are not only welcomed into his presence, but celebrate the fact that the Lord desires to have you near to himself.
See his Goodness
- The Lord is good and his love for you endures forever.
- Give thanks that it is God who is good and it is God who pours our love for eternity.
- We do not have what it takes to love like he loves, and so we ought to give him thanks for the way he loves us.
