THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)
| When Jesus Leads You into the Storm by Pastor Bill Muir Scripture: “Let us go over to the other side.” —Mark 4:35 Quote: “Obedience does not always lead us around the storm; sometimes it leads us directly into it, with Jesus beside us.” The disciples did not enter the storm because they had disobeyed Jesus. They entered it because they followed Him. The journey across the lake was His idea. This corrects the assumption that difficulty means we have missed God’s will. Sometimes the storm comes precisely while we are walking in obedience. Faithfulness does not guarantee calm water; it guarantees that Christ is present in the boat. We naturally define a good life as one in which everything goes according to plan. Jesus defines it as a life lived with Him. He was not merely taking the disciples to the other side of the lake; He was taking them more deeply into the knowledge of who He was. The storm became a classroom. Their fear exposed the limits of their faith, while His presence revealed the greatness of His power. What appeared to be an interruption was actually part of their spiritual formation. Reflection: Have you assumed that a present difficulty means you misunderstood God, failed Him, or wandered outside His will? Could this storm be part of the journey Jesus is using to reveal Himself to you? Application: Name the storm you are facing. Instead of asking only, “How can I escape this?” ask, “Jesus, what are You revealing about Yourself, and what are You forming within me?” Prayer: Lord Jesus, I confess that I often measure Your faithfulness by the calmness of my circumstances. Teach me to trust You when obedience takes me into difficult waters. Help me believe that You are still leading, still present, and still working. Form in me a faith that follows You not only when the lake is calm, but also when the wind rises. Amen. |
