THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)
| “Don’t You Care” by Pastor Bill Muir Scripture: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” —Mark 4:38 Quote: “Fear does more than exaggerate the storm; it distorts our vision of the Savior.” The disciples’ question was painfully honest: “Don’t you care?” They did not merely question whether Jesus could help them; they questioned whether He loved them enough to act. Suffering often brings hidden beliefs to the surface. Beneath our anxiety may be the suspicion that God is distant, that He has forgotten us, or that we must somehow rescue ourselves because He cannot be trusted. Jesus did not abandon the frightened disciples. He met them in their fear, but He also challenged the story their fear was telling them. Fear said, “We are alone.” Jesus was in the boat. Fear said, “We are going to perish.” Jesus had already said they were going to the other side. Fear said, “He does not care.” His entire life, death, and resurrection would declare otherwise. Faith does not pretend the storm is small. Faith remembers that Jesus is greater. Reflection: Complete this sentence honestly: “Jesus, when this happened, I felt as though You did not care because…” Bring the real accusation into His presence rather than hiding it behind religious language. Application: Write down three things your fear is telling you. Beside each one, write a truth about Jesus that answers it. Read those truths aloud whenever anxiety begins to rise. Prayer: Lord, You know the questions I am sometimes afraid to speak. You know the places where disappointment has made me doubt Your care. I bring those fears into Your presence. Correct the false stories I have believed. Teach me to interpret my circumstances through Your character rather than interpreting Your character through my circumstances. Amen. |
