Remember What You Already Know

Scripture:
“Do you still have no faith?” —Mark 4:40

Quote:
“Faith grows when we remember in the darkness what God has already shown us in the light.”

The disciples had already seen Jesus heal the sick, forgive sins, confront evil, and speak with authority. Yet when the storm came, they temporarily forgot what they knew. Fear narrowed their vision until the waves seemed greater than the One who was with them. Their problem was not that they had never seen God’s faithfulness. Their problem was that they could not remember it in the moment of crisis.

We often suffer from the same spiritual forgetfulness. When difficulty comes, yesterday’s mercies can feel distant. We remember the pain but forget the provision. We remember what has gone wrong but overlook all the ways Christ has carried us. Faith is not pretending that the storm is harmless. It is deliberately remembering who Jesus has been, what He has done, and what He has promised. The God who was faithful before has not changed in the night.

Reflection:
When has God carried you through a difficult season in the past? What truth about His character did you learn then that you need to remember now?

Application:
Create a short “faithfulness list.” Write down five times God provided, guided, comforted, protected, or sustained you. Keep the list nearby and read it whenever fear begins to control your thoughts.

Prayer:
Faithful God, forgive me for how quickly I forget Your goodness. When the storm grows loud, remind me of every place You have met me before. Bring Your promises back to my mind. Help me remember that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Strengthen my faith through the memory of Your unfailing love. Amen.
