WALKING AT THE PACE OF JESUS

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)

Jesus and the Yoke “Come to me… Take my yoke upon you and learn of me… for my yoke is
easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

“Grace is not opposed to effort.
It’s opposed to earning.”

Dallas Willard
Jesus never promised us a life without a yoke. There is still work to do, responsibilities to carry, people to love, decisions to make, and difficulties to face. His invitation is not, “Come to Me and you will never carry anything again.” It is, “Come to Me, take My yoke, and learn from Me.” The difference is enormous.

Jesus offers us a way of carrying life that fits the people God created us to be. Much of our exhaustion comes from carrying yokes Jesus never gave us. We carry the need to impress everyone, fix everyone, please everyone, accomplish everything, and control outcomes that were never ours to control. We live beyond our emotional, physical, and spiritual capacity and then wonder why the Christian life feels heavy.

Jesus invites us to exchange all of that for His yoke—to do the work the Father gives us, in the way the Father gives it, with the strength the Father supplies. Imagine moving through today beside Jesus rather than running ahead of Him. You don’t have to solve tomorrow this afternoon. You don’t have to carry somebody else’s calling. You don’t have to prove your worth.

There is work for you today, but there is also grace for that work. The easy yoke is not a lazy life. It is a life in which the burden and the strength given to carry it fit together. Walk with Jesus. Learn His pace. Carry what He gives you—and leave the rest behind.

Reflection
What am I carrying today that Jesus may
never have asked me to carry?

Application
Write down everything that feels heavy today. Beside each item ask, “Is this actually mine to carry?” Release one unnecessary burden and faithfully carry one responsibility that really is yours.

Prayer
Jesus, I am tired of carrying things You never gave me. Teach me Your way. Teach me Your pace. Help me know what is mine to carry and what I must release. Let me walk beside You today and discover that Your grace is enough for whatever You genuinely ask of me. Amen. Bill Muir
