ACCEPTING THE GOD WHO KEEPS RECEIVING US

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)

“Nothing… will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39

“I am deeply loved by Jesus Christ, and I have done nothing to earn it or deserve it.”
Brennan Manning

Many of us live as though God’s welcome changes according to our performance. On good days we imagine Him smiling. On bad days we imagine Him disappointed, distant, or reluctantly tolerating us. We approach God cautiously, never completely certain whether the door will be open. But Jesus reveals a Father whose heart continually moves toward us—a shepherd searching for a sheep, a woman searching for a coin, a father running down the road toward his returning child.

Imagine living every day inside the unrelenting welcome of God. You wake up welcomed. You pray welcomed. You work welcomed. You fail welcomed. You confess welcomed. You succeed welcomed. You fall asleep welcomed. God’s welcome does not mean everything we do is good. Love sometimes corrects us precisely because love wants something better for us. But correction happens inside relationship, not as a condition for entering it.

This changes how we live. When I no longer have to earn God’s embrace, I stop performing. When I stop fearing rejection, I can tell the truth about myself. When I know I am loved, I am free to repent instead of hiding. Perhaps God’s invitation today is very simple: stop standing outside a door He has already opened. Come in. Sit down. Receive the embrace. You are not trying to persuade God to welcome you. In Christ, you are learning to live as someone who already has been.

Reflection
What would change in the way I lived today if I genuinely believed God’s face was turned toward me in love?

Application
Take five quiet minutes. Imagine yourself coming into God’s presence without explaining, defending, or proving anything. Simply repeat slowly: “I am welcomed. I am loved. I am here with You.”

Prayer
Father, I have spent too much of my life trying to earn what You freely give. Teach me to live inside Your welcome. When I fail, let me run toward You instead of away. When I succeed, keep me humble. Let the security of being loved by You free me to become honest, peaceful, courageous, and loving. Amen.  Bill Muir
