THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)
“Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them… Do not worry about tomorrow.”
Matthew 6:31-34
“He who has God and everything else has no more than he who has God only.”
C.S. Lewis
Our world continually whispers, “Not enough.” Not enough money. Not enough time. Not enough recognition. Not enough security. Not enough success. Not enough years. And once scarcity becomes the story inside us, we begin holding tightly to everything we have. We hoard today’s manna because we’re not sure there will be any tomorrow. Fear closes our hands.
God teaches a different story. In the wilderness, He gave Israel manna one day at a time. Enough for today. Tomorrow would bring tomorrow’s provision. Jesus later taught His disciples to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Not next year’s bread. Today’s. God rarely gives us everything we will ever need all at once. He gives grace in daily portions so that our trust remains in the Giver rather than in the pile we have accumulated.
Enoughness does not mean we will possess everything we desire. It means that in God we can discover that we have what we need to faithfully live the life He has given us today. There is enough grace for this failure. Enough strength for this responsibility. Enough love to give some away. Enough manna to share. Enough God for this day. And when I begin believing there will be manna tomorrow, I become generous with the manna in my hands today. Open hands are possible when the heart trusts the Provider.
Reflection
Where does the fear of “not enough” control me? What am I holding tightly because I am afraid there won’t be enough tomorrow?
Application
Practice enoughness today. Name five things God has already provided. Then give something away—money, possessions, encouragement, hospitality, time, or attention—as an act of trust that God will continue to provide.
Prayer
Father, You are enough, and You give me enough for the life You ask me to live today. Deliver me from the fear that there will never be enough. Teach me to trust tomorrow’s manna to You. Open my hands so I can enjoy what You give, share what I have, and live gratefully in Your provision. I receive this day as enough because I receive it with You. Amen. Bill Muir
