THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR RYAN LADEN (DEVOTIONALS)
Happy New Year!
As you look into the face of a new calendar year, you have the opportunity to not only reflect on the events of the previous year, but you are also afforded the chance to think about what you would like to accomplish in the year to come.
It is true that today is much like yesterday, and that it will probably look pretty similar to tomorrow. There is nothing particularly special about the first day of the new year, but there is something useful about these kinds of monuments in time.
Perhaps the new day, and the new year, will inspire you to turn away from the problems and hang-ups of the last year, and see you moving toward your new plans and goals.
As you look into the unknown days ahead, consider the message given by the Lord through the Prophet Isaiah as he reminded them of his never-ending provision and leadership:
“Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Complaint
The Lord was speaking to his people as they were complaining about their circumstances before the Lord. They lacked God’s wisdom and perspective, and therefore could not see that even in their uncertainty the Lord was at work.
Answer
God’s answer to the complaint of the people was to remind them that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Lord has not been hiding from his people, nor is he limited in his ability to respond to their needs.
Provision
In verses 29-31, we hear a message of promise and provision from the Lord to his people. Below is a list of these promises concerning your needs. Reflect on them as you look into the gift of a new year:
· He gives strength to the weary.
· He increases the power of the weak.
· Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
· The faithful will soar on wings like eagles.
· Those who look to the Lord will run and not grow weary.
· If you are with God, you will walk and not be faint.
Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
I acknowledge that you are the power and the source of my strength. I trust in you to help me walk in faith and to seek your glory each and every day. You lift me up, and I soar on wings like eagles with you, Lord.
In Christ,
Ryan Laden
