THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)
Dear Church Family,
I hope this message finds you resting in the truth that right now, in this very moment, God is smiling on you—not because of what you’ve accomplished, but simply because you are His.
This week’s sermon explored the transformative truth of how God sees us through three powerful encounters in the Gospel of Luke. We examined the image of God we carry—whether we see Him as distant and disappointed or near and delighted. Through the stories of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15), Zacchaeus (Luke 19), and the Emmaus Road disciples (Luke 24), we discovered that the gospel is not good news for good people, but breathtaking news for broken people. The God of Scripture doesn’t wait for us to clean ourselves up; He runs toward us in our mess, calls us by name in our hiding, and walks with us in our confusion. This changes everything about how we relate to God and love others.
Takeaways: God runs toward you, not away from you. The Father doesn’t wait for the prodigal to reach the porch—He sees him “while he was still a long way off” and runs to embrace him, covered in pig-pen filth and all. Grace doesn’t wait for your arrival; it sprints to meet you on the path.
Jesus calls you by name, not by your worst moment. When Jesus looked up at Zacchaeus hiding in shame, He didn’t call him “sinner,” “tax collector,” or “traitor”—He called him by name. The gospel of grace does not define you by your failures but invites you out of hiding into the light of unconditional love.
Christ walks with you in every moment—even when you’re headed in the wrong direction. The risen Jesus joined two confused disciples walking away from Jerusalem, listened to their doubts, and revealed Himself in their brokenness. He is present with you in the grocery store, the hospital, the mundane moments—not to criticize, but to be with the one He loves.
This week, I encourage you to ask yourself two questions: When God looks at you, what do you believe He sees? And when you look at Him, what do you see on His face? Let the truth settle deep: you are being pursued by a relentless, smiling God who will never love you more than He does right now—and will never love you less.
May you walk this week knowing you are deeply loved, fully known, and completely pursued.
In His grace,
Pastor Bill.
