JESUS AND THE ABUNDANT LIFE

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)

Living the Life Jesus Gives – Day 1 of 7Jesus and the Abundant Life “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”  John 10:10

Jesus did not come simply to prepare us to die. He came to teach us how to live. When He spoke of abundant life, He was not promising a life filled with possessions, success, comfort, or the absence of suffering. Jesus Himself had little of what the world calls abundance. Yet there was a fullness about Him.

He noticed people others overlooked. He stopped for children. He ate with friends. He wept. He laughed. He touched lepers. He watched birds and flowers. He withdrew into solitude with His Father. Jesus was completely present to God, completely present to others, and completely present to the life He had been given. Perhaps one of our greatest dangers is not that we will die, but that we will live for years without ever becoming fully alive.

We can hurry through days while waiting for something better to happen. We can spend today regretting yesterday or worrying about tomorrow. We can accumulate more while experiencing less. Jesus calls us into another way of living—a life awake to God, awake to people, awake to beauty, awake to goodness, and awake to the ordinary gifts scattered throughout every day.

Abundant life may be much closer than we imagine. It may be found in a cup of coffee slowly enjoyed, a conversation actually listened to, a sunset noticed, forgiveness offered, laughter shared, work done faithfully, or a hand placed gently on someone who is hurting. Not every moment has to be profound. Some moments are simply meant to be enjoyed. But every day can be received as a gift.

Jesus does not merely give us more things to do. He teaches us how to become alive to the life we already have.

 Reflection
Where have I been merely existing rather than fully living? What part of my life might Jesus be inviting me to notice again?

 Application
Today, resist rushing through your life. Choose three ordinary experiences and receive them fully—one beautiful thing to notice, one person to love, and one simple gift to enjoy.

 Prayer
Jesus, I don’t want merely to exist. Teach me how to live. Open my eyes to the life You have placed around me. Help me receive today rather than rush through it. Make me awake to You, to others, and to the gifts hidden inside ordinary things. Teach me to live abundantly. Amen.
