MAKING THE INVISIBLE GOD VISIBLE

THIS IS TABLE ROCK FELLOWSHIP – PASTOR BILL MUIR (DEVOTIONALS)

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16

“The enjoyment of God is the only happinjess with which our souls can be satisfied.”
Jonathan Edwards
We often use the phrase “glorify God” without stopping to ask what it means. God’s glory is the revealing of who God is—His goodness, beauty, holiness, grace, truth, compassion, justice, and love. God does not need us to make Him glorious. He already is. But our lives can make something of the invisible character of God visible to the people around us.

Jesus did this perfectly. When people watched Jesus forgive, they saw something about God. When He touched the untouchable, welcomed the rejected, confronted hypocrisy, defended the powerless, washed feet, and sacrificed Himself, He showed us the Father. Jesus could say, in effect, “If you want to know what God is like, look at Me.” That means glorifying God is far more than singing songs or saying religious words. It is revealing His character through an ordinary human life.

That can happen almost anywhere. Patience with a difficult person can reveal God. Generosity can reveal God. Courage can reveal God. Kindness can reveal God. Telling the truth lovingly can reveal God. Doing excellent work when no one is watching can reveal God. Perhaps one of the best questions we can carry into each day is simply this: What is the greatest good I can do in this moment? Every ordinary interaction becomes an opportunity to make a little more of God’s goodness visible.

Reflection
If someone formed their picture of God primarily by watching my life, what would they believe He is like?

Application
Choose one characteristic of God—kindness, generosity, patience, truthfulness, mercy, or goodness—and intentionally make that quality visible through one action today.

Prayer
Father, reveal Yourself through me. Let my words, reactions, choices, and relationships show something true about who You are. Forgive me when my life distorts Your character. May someone experience Your goodness today because I was willing to make Your invisible love visible. Amen. Bill Muir
